Burn Fat Without the Gym

We understand that weight loss involves eating healthy and daily physical activity but sometimes we just do not have time for the gym. Thanksgiving is over so it is time to get back on track with our diet and exercise plans. Today I will go over some great ways to burn fat without stepping foot in a gym.

Start the Day with Exercise

Eating breakfast first is usually a routine for me but according to a 2013 study in the British Journal of Nutrtition, exercising first thing in the morning can help you lose 20 percent more fat than working out after breakfast. You can try this HIIT workout that includes lunges and squat jumps. It only takes 10 minutes and it can be done right in your living room.

High-Intensity Workouts

If you normally exercise for 30 minutes, try only a third of  that, but go hard! According to Jordan Metzl, MD, author of Dr. Jordan Metzl’s Workout Prescription, an intense 10 minutes boosts your metabolism and equals about 30 minutes at a moderate intensity. Since I like running, I can run for about 3 minutes and burn 200 more calories over the rest of the day, says a 2013 study from Colorado State University.

Get More Sleep

If you are trying to maintain your weight this season, know this: Research from the University of Chicago discovered that dieters lost 55 percent less fat when they slept for 5 1/2 hours rather than sleeping for 8 1/2 hours. To fall asleep faster avoid eating, bright screens and beer a couple hours before bed. Foods that do help you fall asleep faster are bananas, jasmine rice and cherries.

Take a Walk

Walking around the block for about 15 minutes will burn three times as much calories as opposed to sitting down for the same amount of time, says a new study in the Journal of Physical Activity and Health. Also, walking after a big holiday dinner will help aid digestion.

Laugh off the Calories

This season is full of joy and fun so go ahead and laugh it up with family. Did you know that laughing for 10 or 15 minutes can burn as much as 40 calories? Picture going through the entire day with laughter while the calories slowly disappear.

Obesity Gene Discovery May Aid Fat Loss

Losing weight without diet or exercise may seem impossible but new genetic research about the causes of obesity makes it possible. According to a report in the New England Journal of Medicine, researchers have discovered a genetic “switch” inside fat cells that can increase your metabolism and help you burn fat as heat energy.

In the study, mice in the lab lost 50 percent of their body weight when researchers turned that genetic switch on. By examining human fat cells, it has been indicated that this may also work for humans, said senior author Manolis Kellis, a professor of computer science and computational biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass. This sounds like a cool idea, eat as much as you want, then flip on a genetic switch to help you burn calories and lose weight.

The mice were eating the same amount but were not exercising more. The energy burned was in the form of heat so this means that researchers switched their metabolism from energy storage to energy dissipation.

The focus on this research was a gene region known as “FTO,” which has been in the spotlight since its discovery in 2007. Prior research tried to pair the FTO region with brain circuits that control hunger, but researchers now believe the action happens in fat cells and affects how much food is kept, independently of the brain. Hopefully there may be a way to trigger that gene with future medications to turn on that switch and fight obesity.

The researchers also discovered a higher occurrence of two distant genes, IRX3 and IRX5, which meant more fat storage. By changings the pathways of these genes, scientists can reverse the traces of obesity. The scientists specifically looked at “beige fat,” which is closely related to “white fat.” On the other hand, “brown fat” is usually found in newborn babies and burns faster. The mutations in the cells were manipulated so the white fat turned into beige fat. The amounts of early fat cells were increased so that they turned into beige fat instead of white fat.

According to the www.nejm.org (CDC), more than one-third of U.S. adults are obese, costing about $200 billion dollars each year for medical costs. Obesity is steadily rising and people face serious health conditions such as type-2 diabetes, heart diseases and certain types of cancer. This type of research is very important for finding another method for weight loss and preventing obesity to say the least.

With this new discovery of manipulating fat cells to fight obesity in mice, the next step will be finding out how this works with humans. Although diet and exercise is not required for this obesity gene manipulation, it is still important that you do these things for long term fat loss.

Chili Peppers May Induce Weight Loss

If you love chili peppers as a spice, it may help you lose weight as well. According to researchers at the University of Wyoming, adding capsaicin from chili peppers can help induce weight loss in mice on a high-fat diet (Biophysical Society 2015).

With nearly one-third of the world’s population being obese or overweight (World Health Organization), obesity has been a major concern for all researchers across the world. We understand that diet and exercise is the key to weight loss but new alternative discoveries seem to appear every day.

Following a restricted diet and eliminating fatty foods is tough for anyone seeking to lose weight but researchers at the University of Wyoming discovered promise in the potential of capsaicin. They found that this ingredient in chili peppers may fight obesity by stimulating energy-burning and converting white fat to brown fat. This study will be presented at the Biophysical Society’s 59th annual meeting this week.

“In our bodies, white fat cells store energy and brown fat cells serve as thermogenic (heat produced by burning fat) machinery to burn stored fat. Eating calorie-rich food and a lack of physical activity cause an imbalance in metabolism that leads to obesity”, explains Vivek Krishnan, a graduate student working in Baskaran Thyagarajan’s laboratory at the University of Wyoming’s School of Pharmacy. This basically means that brown fat cells are better because they have fat burning capabilities that help burn calories.

Researchers found that high-fat-diet obesity and dietary capsaicin –0.01 percent of capsaicin in the total high fat diet—prevented high-fat-diet induced weight gain with wild mice, but not in mice that genetically lacked transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1).

I agree with the idea that creating a natural dietary supplement to fight obesity can be simply advanced to human clinical studies. I enjoy chili peppers to add spice to my foods and if it helps burn fat as well, I will be sure to add more to my diet plan.

Burn Fat by Drinking Red Wine

Red wine or even grape juice is not only good for lowering your blood pressure but it can also help you burn fat and lose weight. According to a new study at Oregon State University, red wine could spark fat burning when consumed in moderation (Okla, Meshail et al. 2015).

In the study, mice were fed a 60 percent high-fat diet plus given muscadine grape phytochemicals (MGP), a compound found in red wine for 10 weeks. Researchers found that MGP significantly reduced visceral fat mass or helped burn fat and that ellagic acid was a major component in removing fatty acids from liver cells. Neil Shay, PhD, a professor of food science technology at Oregon State University and the study’s lead author suggests, “ellagic acid may constitute a consumer-friendly dietary strategy that may be effective in reducing lipid accumulation and burning fat both in adipose tissue and liver.” I admire this idea because it’s a more natural approach to losing weight instead of the everyday fat loss-promoting supplements.

Venus Factor is a great fat loss system for women and it focuses on controlling the leptin hormone that signals hunger to your brain. Fat loss for women is very difficult than it is for men and this system only focuses on weight loss for women. I personally love grapes and its compound ellagic acid, has also been shown to slow the growth of tumors and eliminate cancer cells which are amazing health benefits.

This new study published in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry could give way to new dietary strategies for reducing fat in the liver using just natural fruits like grapes. I never knew that drinking red wine had such great fat burning qualities but if it helps to burn fat and lose weight, then why not have a glass of red wine in moderation?

Prevent Weight Gain With Inulin Propionate Ingredient

Researchers at Imperial College and the University of Glasgow discovered that this newly-developed ingredient is effective at preventing weight gain and fat loss in obese individuals. This ingredient contains propionate, which stimulates the gut to release hormones that act on the brain to stop hunger (Wong 2014). Now, individuals who are struggling to lose weight can take advantage of this new ingredient by feeling fuller longer and reducing calories.

Propionate is naturally produced when dietary fiber is fermented by microbes in the belly, but the new ingredient, called inulin-propionate Este (IPE), provides much bigger quantities of propionate than individuals can consume with a normal diet (Wong 2014). With these larger amounts of produced propionate, people can reduce hunger because this ingredient acts as an appetite suppressant to make you feel fuller.

To begin with, twenty individuals were given either inulin or IPE, a dietary fiber, and were allowed to eat as much as they wanted from a buffet. How does that sound, being able to eat all you can eat? The volunteers who were given IPE ate 14% less on average, and had higher concentrations of appetite-reducing hormones in their blood (Wong 2014). This means that if you were to take a dose of IPE and eat at a buffet, your appetite or the amount of food you eat can be reduced by 14 percent. This is a great ingredient that can help you feel fuller longer and lose weight by staying away from the buffet line.

Next, sixty overweight individuals participated in a 24-week study in which half were issued IPE as a powder to add to their food and the other half given inulin. One out of 25 participants issued IPE who finished the study gained more than 3 percent of their body weight, compared to 6 out of 24 given inulin (Wong 2014). Surprisingly, none of the IPE group members gained more than 5% of their body weight, compared with 4 in the inulin group. Also, the IPE group had less fat in their abdomens and livers compared with the inulin group after 24 weeks.

Professor Gary Frost, who led the study at the Department of Medicine at Imperial College London, said “Molecules like propionate stimulate the release of gut hormones that control appetite, but you must eat huge quantities of fiber to accomplish a strong effect.” Frost says that this small, proof-of-principle study demonstrates encouraging signs that supplementing one’s diet with the ingredient they’ve developed prevents weight gain in overweight individuals (Wong 2014). “You need to eat it regularly to have an effect. We’re exploring what kinds of foods it could be added to, but something like bread or fruit smoothies might work well” says Frost.

To say the least, this newly-developed ingredient (IPE), can be a real breakthrough for weight loss if combined with daily physical activity. This is new inulin-propionate may be all you need when it comes to an appetite suppressant and an effective tool to burn calories fast for weight loss. If you are new to losing weight you should consult your doctor or physician before making any unusual physical or diet changes. My goal is to help all men and women lose weight and improve their health so hopefully this new inulin-propionate (IPE) ingredient developed by scientists is really effective in reducing your hunger and preventing weight gain.

Let’s all face it! We all desire that sexy beach body and want to lose weight effectively but in these busy times we usually don’t have the time or motivation to achieve our weight loss goals. Today I will share some quick fat loss tips to help you improve your physique and lose belly fat this summer.

Reduce Stress and Lose Weight

Stress activates the cortisol hormone which feeds fat in our abdomen so stress is linked to obesity. My favorite method to reduce stress is exercises including cardio workouts like boxing or running. Boxing is my favorite sport so I love this hobby with a passion. I also like reading, playing video games, riding dirt bikes, meditation and relaxing with some good sleep. A study in 2012 revealed that stressed out parents is linked to childhood obesity because parents are more likely to eat fast food and make poor meal planning. Keep your stress levels down so you don’t activate the hormones that make you fat.

Plan Your Meals

A good idea would be to make a list of groceries for the week and plan healthy meals to prepare at home. This way you will save money, time and eat healthy at the same time. I work during the morning and evenings so I eat a heart healthy breakfast before work and bring me a small meal for lunch and dinner. I save a tremendous amount of money by not eating out and burning gas. I make sure my meals are low in calories but also nutritious to keep me fueled and energized during the day. An example of a meal would be tuna with wheat bread and an apple or a chicken breast sandwich with mac and cheese. Also Dr. Oz recently had a show about weight loss myths and it is recommended that you eat three meals per day instead of five to six small meals. Eating too much creates insulin that stores sugar and you don’t give your body time to actually burn fat.

Exercise for an Hour

Don’t waste your time or money with countless hours at a gym. Instead go for a jog or run at the park and visit your local Sports Authority store for exercise equipment. I go for a run in the morning or at night and use my exercise bar at home for my favorite weight loss workouts. The standard for daily exercise use to be at least 30 minutes of physical activity but in this 21st-century, it is now recommend that we get about an hour of daily physical activity for fat loss. Cardiovascular workouts like running or biking will burn the calories and strength training will tone those muscles up. My favorite exercises are dips, pull ups and old-fashioned push-ups. Obesity expert, Dr. Joel Fuhrman, says exercise is a great way to tone your muscles and improve your lifespan, but as a weight loss strategy, it is much less effective than dieting.

Get Good Rest

Getting a good night’s sleep rejuvenates our body and let’s our muscles and joints recuperate after intense workouts. Sleep is a good stress reliever and at least eight hours of sleep prepares us to take on the next day full force. Your muscles need rest after intensive workouts to repair themselves and increase in mass.

Set Small Weight Loss Goals

One of the biggest mistakes we make when trying to lose weight is setting high goals we know we can’t achieve and end of getting discouraged when we fail. Instead, set small fitness goals like losing five pounds this month and make small changes to your diet. This way you can track your progress and see slow but sure results.

Don’t Fall for the Hype!

Every day there is a new weight loss pill or formula that promises instant weight loss without diet and exercise. If this was true then everyone would be doing it right? The truth is that there is no magic pill or weight loss formula that will make you or anyone else lose weight fast. You have heard it time and time again; “You must follow a balanced diet and exercise daily to lose weight effectively and naturally.” Save your time and money to find a weight loss plan that only works for you. There is no one fat loss program that will work for everyone as we all have different body types.

For the most part, I really want all you ladies and gentlemen to live a healthy lifestyle and get that sexy body you always dreamed of. Losing belly fat and getting a flat stomach is not easy but the hard work will pay off when it’s all said and done. Follow these simple fat loss tips and get 6 pack abs for the beach this summer!
